Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The intricate details, organic forms, and unique beauty of La Sagrada Familia are truly awe-inspiring.
Gaudi’s original plans called for eighteen towers, representing the twelve apostles, the four evangelists, the Virgin Mary, and Jesus Christ. Only nine of the towers have been completed so far, but the church continues to evolve and expand with new additions and updates.
Another unique Gaudi creation that we loved was Park Güell. It was originally designed as a residential area set in a park. It offers stunning views of the city and is filled with whimsical sculptures and mosaics. Visitors can walk through the lush gardens and enjoy the tranquility of the park, which is a welcome contrast to the busy city below.
Food is an important part of Barcelona’s culture and the city is famous for its cuisine. From fresh seafood to traditional paella, there is something for every palate. The Barcelona Tapas bars offer a great opportunity to try out a variety of dishes.
In addition, the city is home to a vibrant market culture. The most famous market is “La Boqueria”, which is located in the heart of the city’s historic Gothic Quarter. This market has been there for more than 800 years and is a must-visit for foodies and culinary enthusiasts. With a wide variety of fresh fruit, vegetables, seafood, meat, cheese, and other local specialties, La Boqueria is a food lover’s paradise.

This ancient neighborhood is a maze of narrow streets, plazas, and historic buildings that date back to between the 13th and 15th centuries. It is home to several impressive Gothic buildings, including the Palau Reial Major located in Plaça del Rei. This was a residence of the counts of Barcelona and the kings of Aragon. These buildings offer a glimpse into the city’s rich history and the cultural and religious influences that have shaped it over time.
The Picasso Museum is also located in the Gothic Quarter and is a must-visit for art lovers. The museum houses over 4,000 works of the famous artist and provides an in-depth look at his life and work.
